\u3000The tenth anniversary independence celebrations and the inauguration of new President Taur Matan Ruak in Timor-Leste held on 19and 20 May 2012. Former Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Professor Sukehiro Hasegawa of Hosei University, participated in the events and met with leaders of Timorese society and also United Nations officials. <\/p>\n

\u3000Professor Hasegawa met Timorese leaders and UN officials during his visit to Dili from 19 to 22 May.They included new President Taur Matan Ruak, former President Jose Ramos-Horta, former President and current Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao, National Parliament President Fernando La Sama de Araujo, Court of Appeal Justice Claudio Ximenez, Deputy Prime Minister Jose Luis Guterres, Finance Minister Emilia Pires, former Prime Minsiter and Fretilin Secretary General Mari Bim Amude Alkatiri, former Deputy Prime Minsiters Esanislau da Silva and Mario Viegas Carrascalao, F-FDTL Commander Major General Lere Anan Timor, PNTL Police Commissioner Lounginhos Monteiro, and UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General Ameerah Haq, UNMIT Political Affairs Director Garry Gray, Governance Division Director Ken Inoue and other UNMIT officials.
\n\u3000Professor Hasegawa also met with Mr. Alain Dick, Special Envoy of former President Ramos-Horta.<\/p>\n
