On September 21, 2025, the “International Day of Peace Bell-Ringing Ceremony” was held at Daihonzan Gokoku-ji Temple in Tokyo. This year, coinciding with the UN’s 80th anniversary, the event was attended by Diet members, local government leaders, religious figures, and diplomats. With the striking of the Peace Bell at noon, participants renewed their commitment to peace.
In her guest address, Senator Ayaka Shiomura noted her re-election and service as the opposition’s lead on foreign and security affairs, conducting Diet questioning on UN reform with guidance from Mr. Hasegawa. She stated there is much the Diet can do for lasting peace and, as a second-generation hibakusha, pledged to continue peace efforts in Parliament.
