Egyptian minister notes the linkage between the regional and the global dimension in the maintenance of international peace and security (13/07/2016)

 Egyptian Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for United Nations Affairs Amr Aljowaily reiterated Egypt’s commitment to the maintenance of peace and security in the African continent, especially in light of the current Egyptian membership in both the UNSC and the AUPSC, expressing that the linkage between the regional and the global dimension in the maintenance of international peace and security is very much demonstrated within Egypt’s membership. Ambassador Aljowaily also expressed Egypt’s views on the importance of the conflict cycle as a whole, as peacekeeping in itself is not a goal; rather, it is one of the mechanism and tools to reach a solution for a particular conflict. He added that the focus of this workshop is partnerships in training and capacity building should consider the importance of upgrading and raising the capacities of the African Architecture comprehensively. In light of Egypt’s presidency of the North African Regional Brigade (NARC), one of the five regional capabilities of the African Standby Force (ASF), Ambassador Aljowaily emphasized the need for partnerships and capacity building initiatives for the NARC, as well as the importance of allocating the resources for training & capacity building in line with the priorities of African Standby Force and its components, including the African Standby Capacity (ASC).
