Chairman of the High Level Independent Panel on UN Peace Operations, former President José Ramos-Horta was welcomed by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on 19 June 2015.

　During his visit to Japan, former President José Ramos-Horta delivered a keynote speech at the High Level Seminar on Peace Building, National Reconciliation and Democratization in Asia held on June 20th at the United Nations University, Tokyo, on 20 June 2015. Japan as a main speaker of the seminar. The High level Seminar on peace building, national Reconciliation, and Democratization in Asia was opened by Japanese Foreign Minister Mr. Fumio Kishida. President José Ramos-Horta was also welcomed by Mr. Ichiro Aisawa, Chairman of the Committee on Fundamental National Policies of the House of Representatives of the Diet of Japan, and Mr. Satsuki Eda, Supreme Adviser of the Democratic Party of Japan. President Ramos-Horta was accompanied by his personal adviser, Professor Sukehiro Hasegawa who also participated in the High Level Seminar on Peacebuilding.
