At the Nikkei Forum held in Tokyo on June 10 and 11, 2026, President José Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste spoke about the vital role of leadership in global governance.
President Ramos-Horta emphasized that leadership guided by wisdom and prudence is essential for strengthening multilateral cooperation for the benefit of the people of Asia. He also referred to the late former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, stating that Annan demonstrated wise and pragmatic leadership in resolving regional conflicts and promoting cooperation in Asia and Africa.
In his remarks, President Ramos-Horta stressed the importance of leaders pursuing common interests through dialogue and cooperation, rather than deepening divisions, amid an increasingly complex international environment.
