【研修旅行】Sri Lanka Study Tour Starts

We started the study tour to Sri Lanka with a visit to the JICA Office on 30 August. Professor Hasegawa joined us on 31 August. IOM Representatives Richard Dansige and his senior staff Lorena Lando, Giuseppe Loprete, Priyantha Kulathunga received us and kindly made three hours briefing about IOM activities in Sri Lanka, IOM is carrying out projects on resettlement of IDPs, reintegration of former combatants, labor migration and other issues. We then visited the Regional Center for Strategic Studies which is a think-tank on peacebuilding issues. Professor Amal Jatawardabem Executive Director, and his staff joined by other officials from civil society in Sri Lanka provided us with detailed presentations on post-conflict relief, rehabilitation, reconstruction, reconciliation and rewakening issues, particularly the resettlement of IDPs from Menik Farm. They stressed the importance of addressing not only material but also political, cultural and social issues. (Kotaro Matsuda)
