Through Professor Wang Min’s lectures, I have come to understand that education is not limited to learning within the classroom, but rather a series of processes that involve experiencing local culture and values and applying them to one’s own goals. In particular, I was deeply impressed by the anecdote that Zhou Enlai, during his time studying in Japan, did not dwell on the fact that he was unable to enroll in a prestigious university, but instead walked through Arashiyama and immersed himself in Japanese lifestyle and culture through all five senses. As I plan to pursue graduate studies abroad this fall, I have come to believe that, in addition to engaging in classes and assignments, I should actively seek out learning experiences unique to the local context and connect them to my research topics and problem-consciousness.
